Episode 168 The Dream Show: Grandmother’s bones

Episode 168 The Dream Show Jane Teresa Anderson

Gay is my guest with a dream about going into a dark cave to look for her grandmother’s bones, discovering, to her delight, American Indian cave drawings, following these deeper into the darkness, only to be led to a terrifying demon. At this point Gay tried to wake up from her dream, but she was unable to move, feeling trapped, weighed down, panicky.

This frightening experience of feeling paralysed and unable to move, either during a dream or in the moments of first waking, is a phenomenon known as sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis keeps us safely in bed while dreaming, stopping us from moving our muscles and acting out our dreams, but when mind and body are out of synch, as happens for Gay from time to time, the results are terrifying.

We look at sleep paralysis, what causes it, and how to escape it on waking, then we go in more deeply to explore the connection between several of Gay’s dreams which have ended in this experience.

We discover wonderfully healing treasure in these dreams, throwing light on a number of areas of Gay’s life that she hadn’t realised were connected. A medical condition, a taboo subject within the family, and a new way to connect to her ancient heritage, all come together in this episode. Enjoy.
