About Jane Teresa Anderson

I’ve spent 34 years listening to people’s dreams and watching what happens when they finally grasp the meaningful insights they hold.

I believe your dreams are one of the most powerful tools you have for understanding yourself and transforming your life. They are precise: a nightly record of your unconscious mind processing your waking experience, revealing the beliefs, patterns, and blocks that influence everything you think, feel, and do. Learn to interpret them, and you have access to something deeply valuable. Learn to apply dream alchemy to what they reveal, and you can change your life at the deepest level.

What I do

I host The Dream Show, a podcast now in its 17th year with over 300 episodes, where I interpret guests’ dreams and share insights into the art, science, and alchemy of working with dreams. I’m the author of eight books: seven on dreams and dreaming, published by Hachette, Little Brown, Random House, and HarperCollins, and my debut novel Ninth Life, published in 2024. I’m a regular guest in the media, and I have spent several decades as a radio Dream Talkback expert, interpreting callers’ dreams live across more than 1,500 shows.

In 2017 I created The Dream Academy so that anyone, anywhere in the world, could learn what I’ve spent a lifetime developing: how to interpret dreams, apply dream alchemy, and train as a professional dream therapist. Students from more than 35 countries have come through its doors.

I also work one-to-one with clients through my Dream Alchemy Sessions, Dream Therapy Journey, and other offerings, bringing 34 years of experience to bear on a single dream, a recurring nightmare, or a longer therapeutic journey.

My foundation is scientific. I have an Honours degree in Zoology specialising in developmental neurobiology from the University of Glasgow (graduating as Jane Teresa Newton), but my work has always lived at the intersection of science and the whispering of my soul. I’ve been researching dreams independently since 1992, developing the methodology that places every dream firmly in the context of the dreamer’s unique life, beliefs, and inner world, and dream alchemy practices that shift perspective and reprogram unconscious limiting beliefs.

Where it all began

Born in England, I graduated from the University of Glasgow with an Honours degree in Zoology, specialising in developmental neurobiology. After a brief postgraduate affair with neurophysiological research at London’s National Institute for Medical Research, I abandoned my PhD studies, along with several one-eyed experimental goldfish, and returned to Scotland. I wanted to work in a more personally meaningful way, communicating complex scientific ideas to the broader community.

I began with two years at Glasgow University’s Hunterian Museum as a Writer and Producer of travelling exhibitions. I learned writing and media skills on the job and had a free hand in choosing the subject matter I wanted to put on the road. One exhibition, titled ‘Mermaids, Myths and Monsters’, was a creative adventure in setting science alongside mythology to illustrate alternative perceptions of the same world.

In 1992, living in Australia and inspired by an ongoing curiosity about my own dreams, an increasing sense that I had something to offer in this field, and a series of synchronistic events, I decided to research dreams. It was an exercise in faith and frugal living that has been meaningfully fruitful and personally rewarding.

My first book, Sleep On It, was published by HarperCollins in 1994, by which time I was already established as a regular ABC radio guest interpreting callers’ dreams live on air. My passions for writing and dream work are equal and have always danced hand in hand.

In 1998, just before my third book was published, I launched my first website: a rather edgy concept in those early internet days. I imagined it as an extended brochure, a way for people to find me and stay in touch. I had no idea how much it would grow, or where it would lead.

And here we are, all these years later. The website has grown beyond anything I imagined that day. The work has deepened in ways I couldn’t have predicted. And dreams keep coming, as they always have, and always will.

I’m glad you found your way here.
