Dream podcasts – behind the scenes

Dream Podcasts Behind the Scenes Jane Teresa Anderson

What’s the story about the snorting pig-dog? Why does veteran podcaster James Williams refer to Michael as the unsung hero of The Dream Show? Why do we, on The Dream Show, go for the raw cut? What happens when you’re in the middle of nowhere and try to record a show by satellite? What happens when you know nothing about podcasting and jump in anyway with an idea for a weekly show?

Michael and I were interviewed last month by James Williams and Dave Gray, of Podcasters’ Emporium, as we approached our 80th show in 18 months, about what goes on behind the scenes of The Dream Show.

It takes us about 4 hours to produce a show each week. That’s an hour for me behind the microphone and two or three hours of processing for Michael. We’re unusual because we don’t edit, so imagine the work that most podcasters put in to finely craft a show minus ums, uhs, and bloopers. Yet podcasters are now beginning to embrace the raw cut.

James and Dave were keen to ask about the differences between fronting a podcast show and appearing in mainstream media, as I do, on television and radio, and why I chose to add a weekly podcast to my media work. We also covered the role of social media, production technicalities, why James can’t do maths, why Dave doesn’t watch morning TV, and why Michael thought podcasting was something to do with fishing.

Whether you’ve been a guest on the show, avidly listen to each episode, have read all about it but never pressed ‘play’, are a podcaster yourself, or thinking of creating your own show, there’s something here for you.

    Hi Jane Teresa,

It was wonderful to have you and Michael on the show, and it was so much fun. We hope to do it again soon. Congratulations on passing 80 episodes!

    James
