Episode 179 The Dream Show: MasterChef lamb

Jeremy is my guest today, with two related dreams, one featuring his father, one featuring his son. Jeremy had a feeling the dreams were connected, and he’s right.

In the first dream, Jeremy’s father is cooking lamb in an audition round for MasterChef, the television show. It’s delicious but, well, there’s usually a ‘but’ in dreams. Listen as Jeremy recounts his dream and the fate of dad’s tasty lamb.

Most dreams introduce a problem or question

Most dreams, when you look at them closely, introduce a problem or question that the dream drama then moves on to try to solve or answer. This is the ‘but’ in a dream. A dream starts, and either all is well and then the problem or question comes up, or the dream dives straight in at the beginning by introducing the problematic dream scenario that needs to be solved or resolved. That problem or question relates to the dreamer’s waking life, though a fair bit of detective work is needed first to break through the symbolism (the dreaming brain paints surreal representations rather than literal dramatizations) and see the connection.

In the second dream, Jeremy needs to catch a train but he’s not allowed through the ticket barrier unless he reconciles a situation with another Jeremy, a hairy, sweaty version of himself.

What is the situation, does he find a way to reconcile it, and how is his son involved in this dream?

This is a poignant, heartfelt dream, from which Jeremy awakes with deep emotion.
